NORENE'S PLATFORM

"I come from a proud family that has been involved with education and public service for as long as I can remember. I want to work with you to improve our schools, and make access to education for all, a top priority. With over 35 years of governmental experience, I know what it takes to find solutions, navigate the complicated governmental agencies, and get things done throughout ALL of the Hillsborough County School Districts."

ACCOUNTABILITY...I will hold all schools, districts, educators, and students responsible for results. My plan includes:

Setting clear goals for people to rally around with goals that are meaningful, ambitious, and achievable;
Providing information to parents, educators, and community members about how schools are doing;
Prompting and supporting improvement where it’s needed; and
Protecting your taxpayer investment in education.

I know that accountability systems by themselves don’t close gaps or improve achievement; but together, with myself as your school board representative and the hard work of parents, educators and students, we can do it!

IMPROVED PARENTAL ENGAGEMENT...various research confirms, that the involvement of parents and families in their children’s education is critical to students’ academic success. I want to help by overseeing the following suggest best practices for all our school districts by:

Creating a welcoming school climate year round.
Providing families information related to their childs development and creating supportive learning environments.
Establishing effective "school-to-home" and "home-to-school" communication.
Strengthening families’ knowledge and skills to support and extend to their children’s learning at home and in the community.
Engaging families in school planning, leadership and meaningful volunteer opportunities.
Connecting students and families to community resources that strengthen and support students’ learning and well-being

TECHNOLOGY & EDUCATIONAL REFORM

Technology can be a very powerful lever for school reform, at the classroom, school, and district levels. However, too often technology is implemented poorly .

Just trying to keep up with the latest initiatives and reports related to technology and school reform can also be quite a confusing task.

Blended learning is a great tool; technology can help ALL our students learn more deeply and more effectively.

I do believe that technology has the potential to reform as well as reshape what happens in classrooms district wide.

SCHOOL SAFETY

Violence and trauma in schools and communities can affect students' overall health and well-being as well as their educational outcomes.

When schools are the centers of their communities, students, parents, and entire neighborhoods benefit. i want to help ensure that schools are sanctuaries for teaching and learning—and free of crime and violence.

EQUAL ACCESS...all of our students in all of our districts, deserve equal access to educational resources like academic and extracurricular programs, strong teaching, facilities, technology, and instructional materials, no matter their race, color, or national origin.
